Film Set Location
A Unique Film Set Location
Over the years, Glengowla Mines has provided a dramatic and authentic backdrop for various film and television productions. Drawn in by its raw natural beauty, historic charm, and atmospheric underground setting.
The site’s rich textures, from the rugged landscapes of the Connemara countryside to the depths of the restored 19th-century lead and silver mine, offer filmmakers a setting unlike any other.
A wide range of cinematic visions
Producers and directors have found Glengowla Mines ideal for scenes requiring historic realism, rural Irish character, or visually striking natural scenery. Whether you’re creating a period drama, a historical documentary, a fantasy adventure, or a contemporary rural story, the mine and surrounding grounds can transform to meet a wide range of cinematic visions.
Glengowla Mines is not just a tourist spot; it’s a unique location full of character and history.
We invite location scouts, production companies, and filmmakers to explore this exceptional setting.
Some examples of our past projects.
This dramatic mini-series, set during the gold rush era, used Glengowla Mines’ historic mine and surrounding terrain to recreate the raw, unforgiving environment of the late 1800s Yukon. The site’s natural authenticity made it an ideal stand-in for frontier territory.
Starring Emile Hirsch and John Cusack, this gritty Western drew on Glengowla Mine’s rugged exteriors and period-appropriate setting to help bring its stark and haunting vision of 1840s America to life.

Would definitely recommend stopping by. Morgan AllenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We visited today while with our tour group, and the sheep-herding demonstration was my favorite thing to see and do so far. Such a sweet family who own and run this working farm and mine. We learned so much about the sheep we’ve been seeing all over the Irish countryside, and were absolutely amazed with the skills of the dogs. If I could move into their precious cottage today, I would have. Such a peaceful and beautiful environment here. And you can find many Irish souvenirs from their gift shop to take home with you. It was nice to be able to purchase many of the items I have been looking to purchase before finishing vacation, and I’m so happy my purchases went to support their family-run business. If you’re in the area or planning a trip to Ireland, definitely add this stop to your itinerary! You won’t regret the visit.
